Mrs. Roberta Brumbaugh
Mexico / Texas
Mexico Border Eugene and Roberta answered God's call to the Mexican people in 1962, with a small Mission on the Texas/ Mexico border. During a year of language school we administrated a guest house for Missionaries going to and from Mexico and the Mission's office. In 1963, God allowed us to begin a mission work which developed into El Templo Biblico and was organized with it's own pastor in 1964. We continued to support the work as needed, as well as help in the establishing of Maranatha Baptist Church in the neighboring town of McAllen, Texas. In 1970, we joined the staff of the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas. Roberta worked in the Registrar's Office and in Public Relations, while Eugene traveled throughout Mexico holding short term institutes in regions where national pastor's had none to little Bible training. During these years, 5 of our 6 children, were growing into teenagers and going off to college and getting married. Eugene began to feel that his ministry of training national workers would be more effective moving into Mexico. In 1980 we were accepted by Baptist Mid-Missions to serve in Poza Rica, VeraCruz with the Bible Institute there. Later we spent a year each in Huachinango, Puebla and Ciudad Saghun, Hidalgo, helping in supporting a fledgling church and replacing a Missionary couple on medical leave in the other. In 1990, God led us to cross Mexico to the western state of Durango, where by His grace we were able to establish the Iglesia Bautista Misionera church in the capitol city of Durango. God gave the church a multi-talented pastor who has led in its growth and development from it's beginning. The church paid off it's building debt quickly, as well as supports many national missionaries and pastors, (mostly working in remote Indian areas). We were able to work alongside the leaders there until we needed to leave Mexico, due to health problems. We had heard of Missionary Acres from the beginning of our relationship with BMM, however, we were not prepared to find what we did, when we came to visit. We knew immediately that God had provided this haven for us. We arrived in June 2001. Roberta loves the caring fellowship of fellow residents and the staff. She loves working in the M.A. office and helping in any way she can at the Acres. Our six children and sixteen grandchildren love to visit us at the 'Acres'. Fishing is a favorite. Eugene, suffering from a lung disease, went home to be with his Lord and Savior September 13, 2009.
