Issue No. 2

Have you ever heard the old saying “when it rains, it pours?”  Well, here at Missionary Acres this spring, when it  rained it  poured!  We have just endured (survived) the wettest spring that Southeast Missouri has ever had since weather records have been kept.  Our average rainfall for an entire year is about 45inches.  We have had that and more already this year.  What the folks in IN, IL, WI, IA, etc. are enduring now, we experienced in March and April.

March 18 and 19, 2008 will not soon be forgotten.  On these dates our area received 12+ inches of rain in about 24-30 hours!  It didn’t just rain, it poured and poured and poured!  How thankful we are that God chose a beautiful location for Missionary Acres on top of one of the highest points in Wayne County, MO.  Just 18 miles west of us in the town of Piedmont, over 18inches of water was flowing down main street!

We are rejoicing that we only suffered minor damage to our roads and houses.  We used a “Shop Vac” to remove over 500 gallons of water from the Moon’s basement.  Several other houses had lesser amounts leak in.  Our roads were washed badly in several locations.  The  culverts are not big enough or ditches deep enough to handle that volume of water in such a short period of time.  Presently, we are replacing several culverts that gave problems during the storms.

Since that day in March, we have had several other “monsoons” come through.  One storm came through just after all our roads were repaired and dropped 6 inches of rain in about 4 or 5 hours!

Thanks to those who called or e-mailed asking if we were alright.  It is nice to know that folks like you  are concerned about Missionary Acres and the folks who live here.

                                             Continued….

Over the course of a year, we have many volunteer workers who come to help us here at Missionary Acres.  Many come as part of  work teams ranging in size from 5-25 people.  Each group is a special blessing to all!

During their visits, we work them hard!  However, we also try to find time for them to relax and enjoy the blessings of spending time with our dear residents.  Pie and ice cream socials are always a big hit!

A missions trip can be a life changing time in a person’s life.  We have had people on work teams receive the  Lord as Savior and we have had some who have surrendered their lives to serve the Lord full time.  Almost all leave Missionary Acres having been impacted in some way to serve the Lord more.

Here are some comments sent to us from one group:

 * “I don’t believe that I would have ever gone to the mission field if it hadn’t been for going to the Acres.”

 * “I can’t believe what I have learned from my times at the Acres.  Those folks are a wealth of experiences and they are so ready to share.”

* “As a result of having been to the Acres I now better realize how to serve those here in our Home Church.”

*Just the trips out and back have been a blessing, as I have observed the young and old interact with each other.”
